It's almost surreal cycling here. All these very familiar names and places (I lived in Papakura for two years, and spent two years as a pupil at Papakura High, before teaching there for a couple of years in the 70s), and here I am cycling down familiar streets and roads, many of which I haven't even thought of for 30 years. Great South Rd from the top of the Bombay was a blast. No traffic, wide roads, and downhill.
Very quickly in Papakura, and loads a memories. The YMCA where I spent so many of my out of school hours as a leader, and all the old haunts. Dropped into the High School for a photo, and rode the streets full of memories.
The rest of the ride into Mt Eden was pretty easy.
Smooth roads, courteous traffic, and it only rained when I had to stop at red lights...... which seemed to be all of them. Unbeknownst to me I cycled past the Prostate Cancer Foundation buildings, which were at the time being evacuated because of an armed offenders alert. Never mind. Will visit them tomorrow.
As always, even on easy days, which today felt like, after yesterday's epic, it's great to get to your destination. Today is Malcolm and Rhonas. A cheerful welcome, a hot shower and an ample share of a large pizza, and a fantastic feeling of accomplishment. Now to plan the safe return journey.
