Left the farm just before light, heading up the valley. Around the dinner table last night I was assured that the route was gentle up hill, with a couple of steep climbs, then undulating. Let's just say that this was a little misleading...... First two hours was quite a slog, and then just when you thought you had it nailed, you hit two major drops into gorges that include big climbs out......
Around 10am I am joined by Brent. My first cycling companion since Hanmer. Fantastic to have a long, and he takes quickly to the Samsung Note so for once we get some photos of more than the bike and trailer. He is also really keen to try the Surly and trailer.... so I lose it for the rest of the day..... which I'm not complaining about. Was great having him along as a porter, and he's a great cook too.
Pasted along some lovely valleys and hooked on to Gorges to Sea Cycle way. Wow. Off main road NZ is stunning. Got puncture number 4 heading up a gentle hill, and 30mins later met up with Liz who had dropped the car in Hunterville and cycled out to meet us. Fantastic to have them along..... and perhaps they might join me somewhere on the world circuit. Big climb up Vinegar Hill to No1 Highway, and a quick trip down the road to Hunterville for photos with the dog, and yummy coffees at three Green Plum Cafe. Thanks girls.
Accommodation tonight is courtesy of the Hunterville Lions at the Station Hotel. Meet a bunch of them for a quiet lemonade and a photo. They are all very aware of Prostate Cancer, so the message is being spread.
Thanks to all for another great day
