Immigration, customs and all was a breeze ......"Pass straight on through sir", this definitely is not USA. Bike & trailer came through Large Items chute. Bike box weighed 36km trailer 20km, and no extra charge. The only problem was getting the lot on a trolley, and through the narrow gates and doors. Somewhere along the way I lost my Bivouac cap....bother.
Shuttle to the motel was quick and easy. Had to hunt around for Mum and Patrick. They were eating down at the local pub. Mum got a fright when I stood at her shoulder and said Gidday. Pretty damn tired so the bed was welcome.
A train ride into Melbourne to talk to Media (fail....not interested), find brake pads (fail....couldn't even find a proper bike shop), buy some maps (fail, the ones I found were no better than I already have), find some reflective tape (fail, only electrical or tuck tape)......
Central Melbourne seems nice. Lots of safe pedestrian paths, bars and restaurants along the river, lots of cyclists, and good looking ladies.......but oh my, the number of smokers out on the streets. After a couple of hours I had had enough, and jumped on a train back to Broadmeadows, only to find Mum & Patrick were on same train.
Today, back to the Broadmeadows Mall.....well out of comfort zone.....to sort out phone. The new SIM card is not registering. Techos can't make it work, and now even the old one, and a couple of others they tried, won't work. My phone is kaput. Another FAIL. Will still work as a camera.......but my mate Verdon from Samsung is on the job....thanks mate.
At least I found some reflective tape at Bunnings. Only problem there was that I tried to do a self check out, not realizing you could only do it with a card of some sort. I only had cash. Sirens and bells....... Yep I'm more comfortable in the Bush, mountains and tracks.
So day two is almost done, and tomorrow I hit the road. A train into Flinders Street Station, and riding south along the beach. Leaving there about 9am. Looking forward to it. Sorry to miss you today Donna. India and Malcolm are going to be there to wave me on my way, and if Mum & Patrick can get to the train they will be there as well. Another send off....and then the real adventure starts.
