Get to Franz in just under 2hours, and as it's sunny and reasonably warm, feel like there is no hurry, so stop for a hot chocolate. Gotta say that some of the serving staff over here are a little grumpy, and uninterested, and they seem pretty bored with their lot. Seen it in three different places over the last few days. I know that us tourists are just a pain, but if you're not interested in being of service, then go get another job.
So the road for the next couple of hours is smooth, almost all flat, and very little traffic, and with the
new snow on the tops, pretty scenic. Get a few good photos until the notebook does a hissy, and starts taking them upside down. What button have I pushed?
I see a first. At the side of the road, no more than a Metre from the traffic, a possum, grazing. I could have almost kicked it. Also another first. Taking a drink on the move, and did a Phil North maneuver. Missed the bottle cage and did a little offroading. Luckily my skills are more advanced than Phils, and I stayed on my bike.
So the day is going really well. The sun makes it feel like a holiday, not having to rush to your destination to get out of the weather. On one stretch I am hitting 31km for over 5mins, and it doesn't feel downhill. And then.......who forgot about Mt Hercules??? Damn. Another grind uphill, but also a great downhill, on dry roads, and only a few kms to Harihari.
It had been suggested that I may be able to camp at South Westland Area School, so went for a look see..... No I can't camp...... But I can have a hot shower, and hang out in the library overnight, oh and would I like some of these cookies fresh out of the oven? Gotta love Coasters. Thanks guys.
