First priority, however, on arriving in Denver, was getting Ju to REI. Would you believe that she ate up four hours looking.....and only stopped because she was getting hungry....and she only spent $80ish...you will see some extra REI points on your account Bill. She had a great time.
For the next two days we sampled Urban Riding. Denver has close to 400 miles of cycle tracks and paths. What a great way to see a city. I hope the planners in Chch are working towards the same ideal. It was amazing how many riders were out using the tracks, even on a Monday and Tuesday, when I would have thought most would be at work. Lots of the time it was easy to forget you were in a
city of one million plus, and then you spot a group of homeless people, or an apartment building. Gotta say that some of the riders were a little aggressive if they thought you were taking too much of the trail, but most were very amenable, and happy to share. Thanks Sarah for sharing.
A bit sad to leave Denver and friends, but they need to work, and we need to play, so head over to Salida and catch up with the Dvorak clan, and sample the great local trails there. All went well. Ju even did some shopping at J2 (that's J squared) and got a lovely fleece hoodie. The last couple of times I've been here I've visited, but not known what to buy her. This time she got to choose herself.....
Then we decided to ride the Arkansas Hills Trail System. Crossed the railway tracks and found....goats head thorns. Within 100m we both had at least 5 punctures in both wheels...damn. Am sitting outside Absolute Bikes in Salida as they put in some anti puncture gunk into my tyres. Better luck tomorrow. Looking forward to Mexican food in local restaurant with Jaci and Bill.
